Gas permeation properties of Pebax®1657/ZIF-8 nanocomposite membrane

Nanocomposite membranes made from metal organic framework (MOF) and polymers have received extensive attention in the field of gas separation. In this work, poly(ether-block-amide), (Pebax®1657)/zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) nanocomposite membranes were prepared using Dimethylacetamide (DMAc) as solvent mixture. The concentration of ZIF-8 in membrane was varied from 10 to 50 wt.% of the polymer. The pure gas permeabilities were recorded at the ambient temperature and 12 bar feed pressure, using pressure constant set-up. The permeabilities of Pebax®1657/ZIF-8 (30 wt.%) membranes were enhanced from 59.7 to 125.6 Barrers for CO2, 3.2 to 6 Barrers for CH4. The ideal selectivity of 30 wt.% ZIF-8 membrane enhanced from 18.5 to 20.8 for the CO2/CH4 gas pair in 12 bar feed pressure.
