Fabrication of high permeable PEBA membranes for CO2/CH4 separation

This work deals with preparing poly (ether block amide) 1657 membranes for gas separation purposes. Membranes were prepared by solvent-evaporation method and for the first time Dimethylformamide (DMF) was utilized as the polymer solvent. This solvent reduced the time required for preparation the polymer solution in comparison with other solvents. Membranes were characterized by single gas permeability measurements of CO2 and CH4 in different operating temperatures (30 and 45 °C) and feed pressures (3 and 5 bar). The obtained results from the tests indicated that CO2 permeability and ideal selectivity increased with feed pressure and decreased with temperature, respectively. The highest selectivity was about 19 at 5 bar and 30°C. In this condition, CO2 permeability was 433.8 Barrer. These membranes introduce DMF as a polymer solvent improving CO2 permeability with a slight change in the permselectivity.
